Collection of Treaties <Guardian Directives>1898Busan Museum
This is an external affairs book published by the Foreign Ministry of Joseon, South Korea's forerunner to the current Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The book is split into two parts: upper and lower volumes. The Treaty of Ganghwa, signed between Joseon and Japan in February 1876, is included in the upper volume on display. The treaty was a typical unequal treaty in which Joseon was forced to open the ports of Busan, Wonsan, and Incheon to Japan and granted Japanese citizens extraterritoriality.
