Charles Irvin was a Northern Presbyterian Church missionary from the United States, and his Korean name was 'Eo-eul-bin (Korean Pronunciation of Irvin). He established the 'Irvin Hospital' in Busan after being sent there in 1893. Irvin's 'Manbyeongsu' was named after the Korean word 'Manbyeong' which means "all diseases."
